Daktari Africa Pioneers a Digital NCD Clinic
Daktari Africa increasing access to Doctors for People Living with NCDs (PLWNCDs)
Daktari Africa has pioneered Digital Health for NCD patients. For the first time in the Region, patients suffering from Hypertension and/or Diabetes are being seen conveniently using online video consultations by Consultant Physicians. Patients living in rural areas with no access to doctors have been seen since December 8th 2018 by doctors - including specialists - working from Nairobi and Thika. This ground-breaking work started in a Sub-County Hospital in Murang'a County and is set to expand to other counties.
This innovative use of telemedicine to increase access to quality care was began in 2016 by Daktari Africa, when, again for the first time on the Continent, patients visiting pharmacies could consult a doctor by live video consultations. This makes it easier for patients suffering from NCDs to access doctors for consultations or renewal of prescriptions, without having to queue for hours at hospitals or busy clinics.
Daktari Africa is thus working to contribute to attainment of Universal Health Care using technology to connect patients to doctors, and therefore make it easy to be healthy.
